Nobody can tell exactly how many duplicate files he has in the computer. But one thing is certain, these files tend to slow down the computer as they participate to disk fragmentation and they also take up unnecessary hard disk space. They can also affect the registry as the same file has a double location in the Windows Registry. Besides that, it influences the read and write activity of the hard disk. A solution for deleting these duplicate files that do a lot of harm is Duplicate Checker. As the name suggests, this software can easily hunt down and delete duplicates.

The software has no problem installing on older computers, as the system requirements are low and so is the disk space occupied by the program's folder. Almost any version of the Windows operating system is supported for running this program.

Launching the program will display a graphical interface together with a small window, in which the user can make the settings regarding the search process. Thus, he can choose the location where the program will look for files and he can also set the criteria that will be used for comparing files. This can be either by name or by size. Besides that, only certain file types can be compared, for speeding up the search process and bringing up results faster. Furthermore, only files created between certain dates can be scanned, raising the scanning speed even more.

After making the necessary settings, the program will start looking for duplicates and will display them in pairs, making them easy to spot. At this point, the user can look at each file and can choose to delete all the duplicates or only some of them. Besides that, clicking on a certain file type, like an image, for example, will display a thumbnail of it in the right section of the interface, for making sure that files are really duplicates. The list of duplicate files can be exported as a .csv file for later analysis.

Besides displaying search results, the program can also show some statistics regarding a search process, displaying the total number of scanned files and the number of duplicate files found, together with the duration of the search.
